One of our photo clients, Gina Levay, has a new book coming out in November on Powerhouse Books. The book entitled SANDHOGS documents the "Sandhogs." Sandhogs are miners 800 feet below the streets of Manhattan, tunneling bedrock to construct the largest unified infrastructure project in New York City history—the 60 mile long City Water Tunnel #3. Gina's photos look quite stunning in this large format book. Check out the little splash page we put together for her for more info.

Art + Commerce is asking various people from all walks of the creative world to choose their "favorite" image from their impressive Image Archive. I was happy to be asked as I am a big fan of many of their photographers. William Abranowicz's series of photos from an "Island in Maine" was a no brainer for me - choosing that one photo was a little more difficult, but everything about this one I chose is everything I am looking for in my life right now. Visit the Image Archive at Art + Commerce.

Standard Motion has been hired by, New York City-based photographic agency, Redux Pictures to redesign and redevelop their website. Redux Pictures is an assignment agency with more than 100 photographers who have shot photos for just about every newspaper or magazine you could possibly think of. Our design will show the agency in a vibrant new way with an emphasis on improved user experience on the front-end and a kick-ass custom Wordpress CMS on the back end. Look for this in early September. As always, it's an honor to work for Marcel Saba and his Redux crew. (photo by Heather Johnson of Redux Pictures)

I am happy to announce that I managed to sucker Caroline Keim to give up her dreams of being a scuba diver and instead coming to work for us. She's been working remotely for the last couple of years (from Raleigh, NC) and she's just made the move up to NYC. Representing Richmond, Virginia - Caroline brings a tried and trusted development brain to the workings over here at Standard Motion. Some would call her a Wordpress Guru, I prefer to think of her as a Wordpress Jedi. She's taken the open source production and development to a new level for Standard Motion and I am thrilled to have her sitting across from me everyday. She's web standard compliant all the time and she's going to be known as Director of Development. She'll also dust you in flag football especially if you don't like the Cowboys. Caroline - welcome, it's a pleasure and an honor. You can check out her website, Keim Design, right here.

Two of the websites we've created, Wisteria NYC and Preston Mack Photography, are featured in this year's version of the Pepin Press series Web Design Index. Here's what Pepin Press says about this series: "This is the fourth volume of our Web Design Index by Content, again showcasing 500 sites arranged by content. Every year, 500 new designs are selected and grouped in more than 20 categories, such as architecture, art, fashion, food, IT, music, photography, product catalogues, etc. The Pepin Press/Agile Rabbit Editions web design indexes are international best-sellers, with about a quarter of a million copies sold worldwide." The book comes with a CD-Rom and they're invaluable resources for web designers. We're excited to be in there with so many great studios. Thanks to Mathias Baske (superstar flash developer) for his help on those projects. You can order the book from Pepin Press and, while you're at, check out the Wisteria site as well as Preston's.

Last year I designed the identity for 826LA's Paddle Boat Regatta which also included a poster, t-shirt and microsite. The event, where teams of two race paddle boats around Echo Park Lake, was such a huge success (they raised over $25k!) that they're doing it again this year. I updated the posters with some new info, but the design remains the same. I felt it was worthwhile to post this as any mention of 826LA is a good thing. They're a terrific non-profit run by exceptional people. This is the fourth year I've been fortunate enough to work with them and it really is an honor to contribute to their mission. So, anyone in LA should head over to their site and sign up for this event - complete with VIP after party.

The exhibit runs from August 7 - August 27, 2009 at the Dean Johnson Gallery. Please visit the official website for the exhibit as well as the show preview.
